New Bedford in the Palm of Your Hand is the result of Beth Jones' thoughtful and ambitious three-month residency at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, where she collected over 50 personal stories of belonging and belongings from current and past residents of the City that Lit the World.* These visual narratives highlight the emotional connections people have with meaningful objects, from lost and found family photographs to pantyhose saving seven fishermen's lives. This community storytelling project reveals the deep ties between individuals, the items they hold precious, their memories and their community.
Jones curated these stories on an interactive digital StoryMap, with every video story geolocated to its original location in New Bedford. The StoryMap can be accessed by scanning the QR code below or by interacting with the map on the touch screen tv.
